Sheltering Arms is seeking a Group Leader to work with our At Risk Youth in the Adolescent Residential Care Program (ARC). The Group Leader will be responsible for assuring compliance with the daily routine and structure of the facility, maintaining agency standards of quality care and service provision for the youth. The Group Leader will oversee the treatment of the group, each youth and coordinate the work of the staff team. The Group Leader supervises the shift supervisor(s), direct care staff assigned to the team, coordinates the work of all team members toward the treatment and positive development of the team’s youth. The Group Leader monitors check-ins, engages the group, individual youth and staff throughout the day, leads five group meetings each week at a regularly scheduled time, and facilitates weekly team meetings in a milieu to support the MYSI Approach.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain in conjunction with the Site Director, a leadership role in the development of a humane, safe, and therapeutic environment which promotes the standards of the MYSI Pillars: Leadership & Organizational Structure; Supervision, Safety and Structure; Group Work and Facilitation Skills; and the Facility Environment
  • Supervise staff, supervisors and the entire MYSI process including:
  • Program treatment planning, implementation and supervision; and an environment cohesive for staff and team meetings.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and the ability to grasp the group meeting process and its importance.
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively facilitate and supervise a check-in and circle-up.
  • Ability to review and ensure proper documentation and completion of Behavioral Assessments, Staff Input Form and Advocate Notes.
  • Complete all required documentation within appropriate timeframes.
  • Ability to facilitate weekly staff team meetings utilizing team meeting agenda components.
  • Demonstrates an ability to prepare reports and present information clearly.
  • Assumes responsibility, together with the staff for the safety, personal conduct, care and therapy of the youth in a group.
  • Maintain security in the building, grounds and other posts; intervene during emergencies or altercations to prevent escapes.
  • Inspect dorm and living areas daily for cleanliness and organization.  Ensure major details are completed regularly and appropriately.
  • Responsible for adhering to all ACS, OCFS, agency regulations and training requirements.
  • Learn and apply facilitation skills in leading group activities, discussions, problem-solving and treatment presentations/sessions. The ability to work with youth in an empathetic & understanding manner & foster cooperation of the youth in the treatment process
  • Interacts constructively with staff members to develop and implement treatment techniques and ensures treatment strategies/goals are implemented consistently
  • Communicate and keep staff informed of significant behavioral conditions known about an individual and/or the group including (therapist, case planner, visitation specialist, art/music therapist etc.)
  • Ability to assess and understand the natural dynamics that occur with youth groups and staff teams in facilities
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff and other agencies maintaining appropriate professional boundaries that are consistent with agency’s policy and procedures
  • Receive supervision from an administrative supervisor/site director
  • Utilize Safe Crisis Management as necessary to maintain youth safety and exercise appropriate de-escalation techniques
  • Schedule and maintain daily maintenance of agency vehicles.
  • Responsible for providing safe transportation for residents and attending various appointments (including driving residents to and from school, medical appointments, and off-site family visits).
  • MYSI Reporting
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Ability to drive a 10 to 15 passenger van
  • Prior experience working in a group home required.
  • Must have excellent  verbal and written communication skills in order to maintain required documentation
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and youth development, and trauma-informed perspective
  • Ability to travel to all five boroughs
  • Commitment to the mission and values of SA
  • Must be able to pass required Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training and pass recertification on an annual basis.
