Activity Specialist (Bronx Hope)

Sheltering Arms is seeking an Activity Specialist for our Bronx Hope site. The Activity Specialist has a specialized skill set or knowledge and expertise in one or more disciplines or content areas, in which they lead and implement student activities such as arts, dance, music, STEM, literacy, and organized sports, etc.


Essential Functions

  • Facilitates core components of dance/stepping, music, arts, sports activities, etc.
  • Prepares students for specifically assigned shows and events
  • Writes and submits lesson plans and reports, as necessary
  • Develops and implements project-based lesson plans and activities in area of expertise that enrich academic learning, as well as fosters and develops students’ social and emotional skills
  • Provides opportunities for students to showcase work
  • Attends staff meetings, professional development workshops and program events
  • Develops appropriate lesson plans in conjunction with the Educational Specialist
  • Prepares and submits weekly activity lesson plans and documents student progress
  • Assists in all activities such as during snack time, field trips, special events and dismissal, etc.
  • Maintains accurate participant attendance, activity and sign-out records
  • Ensures student safety and security at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director
  • Supports the principles of the Missouri Model and Integrated Treatment Model with the end goal teaching the young people to make positive, lasting changes in their behavior by preparing them to be self-sufficient through education and work experience.


  • High School Diploma required; Associate’s degree  preferred
  • Two years direct experience working with children
  • Appropriate training or certification in a specialty area, such as in sports, dance/stepping, music, drumming, theater/drama, etc.
  • Must be able to pass the Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training
