Visitation Specialist

The Visitation Specialist is responsible for supervising family visits in the Foster Care and Adoption (FCA) offices and in the community for families who are identified for trial discharge.  These visits may take place during traditional work hours as well as evenings and weekends.  The Visitation Specialist will provide coaching as well as acting as a role model.  The Visitation Specialist will work 13 hours per week.

 

Essential Functions

  • Develop a visitation plan for each identified family in collaboration with the case planner.
  • Provide guidance to the family and children to make the visits successful.
  • Provide supervision, if needed, to ensure the safety of all family members and strengthen the parental role in the family.
  • Record all progress notes in Connections on a weekly basis.
  • Participate with the team in assessing readiness for trial discharge.   
  • Maintain ongoing contact with Case Planner.
  • Perform[MS1]  other duties as delegated.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree: BA or BS in Human Services or Social Work preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be a team player, flexible, and ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of Connections is preferred
  • Strong writing skills, including competency with progress note completion
  • Must be able to travel to the five boroughs

Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to complete all standard administrative and support tasks including but not limited to climbing up and down stairs, operation of computers/phones/fax/printer/copy machine, and the ability to lift boxes, furniture, and equipment up to 30lbs. Must be able to travel from the various locations and sites of Sheltering Arms. Physical and PPD clearances required.
